MURFREESBORO – The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found early last week in the Big Springs Road area in the southeastern part of the county.
The remains, which appear to have been there for several months, were sent to the state medical examiner’s office to be identified, according to Sheriff Robert Arnold.
Some of the remains were found Sunday and turned over to the sheriff’s office, Arnold said. With the assistance of forensic pathologist Dr. Hugh Berryman and his MTSU students, sheriff’s detectives and the Emergency Medical Services’ Special Operations Response Team recovered more remains Monday, he said.
“We are waiting for identification and, if possible, the cause of death,” Arnold said.
