Looking for an evening of art and entertainment? How about two?
Local residents are in for two grand events slated for late-August and September.
The Art Barn in Rockvale will hold its first-ever fine art fair, August Art Jubilee, themed "Birds of a Feather," from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.
"We want this fair to feel more like a lovely outdoor art reception than a fair. That is why the art has been juried in and the food vendors (Jim 'n' Nick's BBQ and desserts by Laura's Sweet Side) have been hand-picked, as well as the music," said The Art Barn owner Dawna Kinne Magliacano.
August Art Jubilee will feature 15 artists' tents and displays, elegant greenery, music and giant birdhouses – all keeping in theme with "Birds of a Feather."
Additionally, a children's theater troop strutting about in bird costumes in a Cirque du Soleil-style will also be on hand during the event.
Magliacano explained how a covered tent will house the music and several tables complete with linens and center pieces for guest to dine.
"Our goal is to have people walking away from this fair talking about it and already planning for their attendance and who they'll want to bring with them for next year," she said, adding that event coordinators hope to bring sales to the local artists and draw more quality artists each year.
Power of Pink to raise needed funds
Join local residents in Murfreesboro's historic downtown beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, for Wine Around the Square, a new fundraising event for MTMC Foundation's Power of Pink.
The event features a progressive wine tasting and art show to benefit local women's breast health needs, according to event organizers.
Funds raised will be used for mammograms, breast cancer care and education for women in Rutherford County who may be uninsured, underinsured or indigent.
Wine Around The Square will feature live music, appetizers, an art show and wine-tasting venues throughout downtown Murfreesboro.
The event promises to be a casual, fun outdoor evening beginning at Pinnacle Financial Partners at 114 W. College St., where paid guests will check in, receive a Wine Around the Square etched signature wine glass, enjoy the evening's first wine tasting, sample passed hors d'oeuvres and receive instructions for the evening.
Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to taste a variety of different wines inside approximately 20 downtown shops, attorneys' offices and boutiques throughout the central portion of the Square.
Each tasting station will be staffed with volunteers who will describe and pour wine, as well as offer a water rinse of the wine glasses before visitors proceed to the next station.
Live music will be playing at multiple outdoor venues throughout the evening.
All of the funds raised at Wine Around The Square will remain in Rutherford County and will help provide breast care for Rutherford County women.
Tickets are available online at mtmc.org for $75 per ticket. The ticket price at the door will be $85, depending on whether any tickets remain available on the day of the event.
