House committee formed to review Rowland's residency

Tennessee’s House of Representatives voted Monday to review a complaint filed as to where Rep. Donna Rowland (R-Murfreesboro) truly lives.

The house voted unanimously to create a committee to investigate a complaint filed earlier this year by Dr. Rishi Saxena, which alleges Rowland lives outside the 34th House District that she was re-elected to represent in November. Saxena was her opponent.

“I live at 237 Faldo Drive, which is in the 34th district,” Rowland said, adding the district attorney investigated the issue when the complaint was filed and found “no issues” with her residency.

Rowland said this formation of the committee is routine procedure to look into the complaint and is confident nothing will come of it.

The motion was presented by Rep. Gary Odom (D-Nashville) and seconded by Rep. Jason Mumpower (R-Bristol). The Rutherford County delegation – Reps. Joe Carr, Kent Coleman and Curt Cobb – also voted in favor of the motion.

The 34th District is made up of western Rutherford County, from the Barfield community to La Vergne.

Saxena is a practicing cardiologist in Murfreesboro, who lost the November general election to Rowland, who was first elected to the state House in 2000.
