Two men armed with a small handgun tied up a motel clerk and beat him about 1 a.m. Tuesday at Comfort Suites on North Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro Police reported.

Clerk William Thomas was working when two men pointed the handgun at him and told him to give them all the money in the cash drawer, Officer Joe Zeltner reported.

The suspects then forced him to show him where the safe was located, the officer reported. They ordered him to kick the door in to gain entry to the office where the safe was kept.

“He was unable to open the safe and so the suspects began beating him and proceeded to tie him up,” Zeltner reported. “Thomas then stated the suspects ripped the safe out of the wall but were unsuccessful in opening it.”

When they ran out of the building, he untied himself. He heard the front door open and saw the two suspects return. He ran out the back door to Wal-Mart where he called police.

The suspects were described as one white male and one black male wearing all black with bandanas tied around their faces.

People who have information about the suspects may call the Criminal Investigations Division at 893-2717 or Crime Stoppers at 893-STOP.
