Fire believed caused by a malfunctioning hot water heater resulted in $10,000 damage to a home early Sunday near Almaville, a sheriff’s deputy reported.

Neighbor Tiffany Schmidt alerted Kelly Walker of Rushmore Drive when she saw flames from the garage and called 911, Deputy Michael Parsons reported.

Almaville Volunteer Fire Department firefighters arrived within minutes and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire damaged the hot water heater, interior of the garage, garage door and vinyl siding.

Firefighters determined the fire started in the hot water heater, Parsons reported. The hot water heater had not worked properly in the past few days.

Walker estimated it would cost about $10,000 to repair the home.

If it is a gas Whirlpool WH then it has a good chance of being involved a couple of years ago in a class-action lawsuit. If you have a Whirlpool call customer service and get the new burner assembly.

Hmm...well, yes, a "hot" water heater would certainly be suspect. Water heaters are designed to heat cold water.
