Horace Grady Baskin, age 94, passed peacefully with his wife and children by his side on Monday, August 11, 2014.
Mr. Baskin was a native of Rutherford Co., and son of the late Thomas Miles Baskin and Mary Ada Woodruff Baskin. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert William, Edward Lee, Thomas Miles, and Eugene Haskell Baskin; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Smotherman, Lyla Lucille Burns, Ada Bryant Ralston, and Margaret Jewell; children, John Horace Baskin and his wife Bonny of Manchester and Mary Ann Miller and her husband Dwight of Fayetteville, NC; sister Dorris Virginia Crannell of Titusville, FL, and brother James Sidney Baskin of Spring Hill; grandchildren, John Stuart Baskin, Donna Ruth Enis, William Thomas Miller, and Joe Benjamin Miller; and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Baskin was a former elder at Minerva Dr Church of Christ in Murfreesboro and is a member of Main St Church of Christ in Manchester. He attended services of the Church of Christ at McArthur Manor until he was physically unable. He served in World War II , landing shortly after D-Day as a member of the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the liberating forces moving through France, Belgium, and Germany for two years. After the war he served in Civil Service on Sewart Air Base in heating and air conditioning services. He completed his working career at Middle Tennessee State University.
Mr. Baskin will be greatly missed by those that were blessed to call him husband, dad, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother, and friend.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Bro. Ron Harper will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Active pallbearers will be Ben and Bill Miller, Buck, Tom, Van, and Lynn Baskin. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Reeves, Clyde McCoullough, Herb Alsup, Jim Davidson, Ronnie Hayes, Jeff Enis, Joe and David Mitchell, Carl Hirlston, and David Dunn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, 410 Allied Dr, Nashville, TN 37211. He volunteered with this organization and it’s work was very close to his heart.
