Holloway Harbor gets grant to upgrade playground

The Holloway Harbor Childcare Program will be getting some new playground equipment and mulch thanks to the Richard Siegel Foundation.

The foundation recently awarded Holloway High School a grant of $4,923 for the childcare program that helps lessen the expense of childcare for high school students who are also parents.

Started in 1986, the childcare center also allows teen parents to complete their high school educations at Holloway, Rutherford County’s alternative high school.
Holloway Harbor is a childcare program for teen parents and students at Holloway High School.

Student parents pay a fee of $1 a day, but provide diapers and baby food, for the childcare for children age 6 weeks to 4 years, said Martha Tucker, director of the childcare center.

The program provides hands-on parenting experience for students, as well as a stable environment for the children at the state-licensed daycare center.
