The two Exchange Clubs of Murfreesboro have announced plans for their 36th Annual Prayer Breakfast at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Doubletree Hotel on Old Fort Parkway.

The breakfast is a part of the clubs’ national effort to remind citizens Americans are truly “One Nation Under God,” said Donna Gibson and Lee Colvin, presidents, respectively, of the Evening and Noon Exchange Clubs.

The speakers are Linda Gilbert, MTSU (education/youth); Lee Moss, Mid South Bank (business); Sandi Russell, retired director, Heaven Sent Adoption Agency (social work/nonprofits); Murphy Fair, TV analyst and sports pollster (sports); and Ernest Burgess, Rutherford County mayor (government).

2009 Celebrity Spelling Bee takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Patterson Park Community Center.

Celebrity Spellers include Gloria Bonner, Angie Boyd-Chambers, Angela Floyd, Kelly Holcomb, Melinda Hudgins, Sidney McPhee, George Lien, Rob Lyons, Mark Pirtle, John Rodgers, Lori Sain Smith, Mark Sims, Ralph Vaughn, Ginny Williams and Vincent Windrow.

The deadline to enter the Dec. 13 Rutherford County Christmas Parade is rapidly approaching. Entries must be submitted to WGNS Radio, 306 S. Church St., by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. The theme of this year’s parade is “Sounds of Christmas,” which will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, starting at MTSU’s Bell Street Parking lot, down East Main Street, around the historic Murfreesboro Square, onto West Main and ending on Walnut Street.

A reception with refreshments will follow the service.

Dog Show, art by Sally Ham Govan opens Dec. 7 in the Rotunda at Murfreesboro City Hall, 111 W. Vine St. The exhibit is open to the public 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1. Meet the artist at a reception Thursday, Dec. 10 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Rotunda. The exhibit is sponsored by the City Hall Art Committee.

Come along for a sleigh ride through your favorite holiday movie music with the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra’s “A Reel Christmas.” Maestro Jeffrey Reed and the MSO will take the stage on Monday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 pm at First United Methodist Church.

The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4. at Murfreesboro's Historic Downtown Square.

Performers include First Baptist Church puppet show, Bradley School of the Arts orchestra, Baker Performance Academy dancers, Brooke Arrington, North Boulevard Church Choir, St. Paul's Episcopal Church Choir, Homer Pittard Campus School Choir and Oakland High School Choir.
