I like that an under the radar sport like bowling is getting its time in the spotlight. I didn’t know bowling was really prevalent in high schools being from a different area of the country. Reading the article I see it has been a sport here in Tennessee since 2001 and “Rutherford County has had some of the top teams in the state.”
This is particularly interesting because bowling is such a gentlemen’s game (requires a lot of precision and touch like golf) and a change of pace from the normal featured sports around like football and basketball. It is not as intense as contact sports for obvious reasons (there’s no contact!) but it really brings out the best in people and is still highly competitive. The article states, “each team has six bowlers competing at the same time.” This makes for a really close team because sometimes the fewer the people, the stronger the personal relationships are between them. On a high school football team with 70 plus kids, there’s only so much you can know about all of those people. I get a sense that the bowling community is really tight. Following this article, more people will know about bowling in Tennessee.
