| The Arts Center of Cannon County is opening a new exhibition "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: The Three Rs in Tennessee's Cultural History," on Aug. 7 through the spring of 2009.
This exhibit marks the grand opening of The Arts Center's Cannon Cultural Museum. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle will feature works from three collections, The Cannon County Historical Society, The Cannon County Basketry Collection and The Caldwell Collection of Self Taught Art.
A welcoming celebration will be held from 6:30 8:30 p.m. on Aug.7 with the public invited to experience Cannon County’s the newest cultural attraction. As an added bonus, this evening is also the dress rehearsal for Buddy-the Buddy Holly Story and visitors are invited to watch rehearsal that begins at 7:30 P.M.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle will examine how craft, self taught art and history incorporate and are affected by the practice of recycling. This exhibit will focus on the relatively new ecological mass movement of recycling, and what Tennessean’s art and cultural history did to incorporate these practices.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: The Three Rs in Tennessee's Cultural History will also feature the first exhibit funded by the Cannon County Historical Society about Cannon County's role in the Civil War. This exhibit will focus on Cannon County’s brief place in civil war strategy as well as hardships suffered by Cannon County’s civilian population during the conflict.
Admission to “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: The Three Rs in Tennessee Cultural History” is free. The museum is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Arts Center is located on 1424 John Bragg Highway, just west of the town of Woodbury, approximately 20 minutes from Murfreesboro, Manchester and McMinnville and one hour southeast of Nashville.
