MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its second annual Heroes Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 19, officials recently announced.

The luncheon is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at the Stones River Country Club, located 1830 N.W. Broad St in Murfreesboro. Attendees will be seated at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets for the luncheon are still available and range in price. Corporate and individual table sponsorships are between $250 and $5,000, with the funds going toward the local Red Cross chapter.

This year, the organization is honoring former state Sen. Andy Womack with its Hero of the Year award.

“This year, we are really looking forward to honoring our friend and longtime supporter Andy Womack,” said Mike Cowles, executive of the Heart of Tennessee Chapter.

Womack has been an “advocate and volunteer leader” for the Red Cross for many years and chapter members are very proud to be able to take this opportunity to thank him, he said.

A Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Army, Womack is a Middle Tennessee State University alumnus and has resided in Murfreesboro since 1957.

For more than 30 years, Womack has worked as a State Farm Insurance agent Middle Tennessee. He has also served on the board of directors for the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, as well as chaired the board for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

However, Womack is best known for his 12-year career in the Tennessee General Assembly, where he served on various committees in the Senate as a Rutherford County delegate.
