Heritage South announces scholarship recipients | BIZ

Marvin McBee, chief executive officer of Heritage South Community Credit Union, recently announced the recipients of six $500 scholarships awarded to area high school graduates.

“We are delighted that we can provide assistance to these fine young people, and help them continue their education,” he said.

High schools in Bedford, Marshall and Rutherford counties were notified of the credit union’s scholarships earlier this year. Applicants must be members of the credit union and have excellent academic success and extra-curricular involvement at their high school. After careful review and screening of applications, the Heritage South Scholarship Committee selected the following:

Simone Lizette Harris, Riverdale High School, will attend UT Chattanooga this fall, pursuing a degree in physical therapy. In addition to volunteering at Special Kids, Simone has been very involved in her school and community through Girl Scouts, Beta Club, DECA, National Honor Society, as a student council representative, and member of Mu Alpha Theta. She is the daughter of Walter and Sandra Harris of Murfreesboro.

Mistee Paulette Harris, Riverdale High School, plans to pursue a degree in education at Middle Tennessee State University. Captain of the Murfreesboro Women’s High School Rugby Team, she has been a member of DECA, French Club and Art Club. She is the daughter of Janie and Tom Harris of Murfreesboro.

Daniel Ernest Batten, Shelbyville Central High School, plans to attend Motlow State Community College this fall where he will study criminal justice. A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Key Club, Nathan was involved in football, basketball, baseball and track. He is the son of Capri Batten and Billy Batten, both of Shelbyville.

Nathan Todd Armstrong, Cascade High School, has been active in his school and community. A recognized leader of is football team, Nathan has been a member of the Interact Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Spanish Club. He plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University this fall and will major in Education. Nathan is the son of Leilah and David Armstrong of Bell Buckle.

Joseph Daniel Stoltz, Marshall County High School, plans to pursue an engineering degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Among his extra-curricular activities at were Future Leaders of America, Beta Club, and Interact. He served as captain of the Soccer Team and played football. Daniel is the son of Joe and Kim Stoltz of Lewisburg.

Brittany Patricia Wood, Marshall County High School, will attend the University of Alabama, Huntsville, this fall, pursuing a major in computer science. She has been a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, MCHS Marching and Concert Bands, Girl Scouts, and Tri-M music club. She is the daughter of Michael and Liz Benzinger of Lewisburg.

Heritage South Community Credit Union, formerly EPCO Credit Union, was established in Shelbyville, Tennessee in 1957. Serving approximately 18,000 members in Bedford, Marshall and Rutherford Counties, membership is available to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the three counties. Currently, Heritage South offices are located at 763 North Main in Shelbyville, 600 East Church Street in Lewisburg, and 2705 Old Fort Parkway, Suite P, in Murfreesboro.
