The Boys and Girls Club of Murfreesboro invites the community to help Build a Bathroom for a local girl with a rare, incurable and crippling disease.
Smyrna’s Shardai Cousino, 15, was born with Epidermolysis Bullosa, which caused her to be born without the top layer of skin on her legs and the inside of her left elbow. The disease is caused by a lack of fully developed skin proteins.
At the age of 5, Shardai was also diagnosed with polymyostis, an inflammatory muscle disorder.
Because of her disorders, Shardai’s skin is so delicate even a simple hug can cause excruciating pain and the simplest touch can cause pus-filled blisters.
Her wounds have become so severe, baths take between four to 12 hours and all she wants is a bathroom big enough for her wheelchair that she can relax in.
Smyrna Elementray, Middle and High schools, along with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rutherford County, also want to make this dream happen by holding a benefit from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Boys and Girls Club of Murfreesboro.
The event will include drawings for dinners at local restaurants, a silent auction, live bidding on three vacations, a bake sale, T-shirts and more.
The Boys and Girls Club will also provide activities for children, like access to the game room, face painting, a balloon artist and magic show. A superhero and princess will also make special appearances.
Outback Steakhouse will provide dinners plates for $10.
