Volunteers are needed to read to preschool Mid-Cumberland Head Start children and work with them in motivational reading activities from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 to March 6 at 219 S. Maney Avenue.
The non-profit Head Start provides services to at-risk preschool children and family services such as food, housing and GED classes to parents, said spokeswoman Jennifer Burks.
Under the Reading is Fundamental program, children will receive free books from Jan. 27 through April.
“They will read as many books as they can with their families to promote a more literate nation and help discover and promote the joy of reading for the family,” Burks said.
During the special challenge week Feb. 23 to March 6, volunteers will read to the children throughout the day. They also need volunteers to work with the children to make book markers and book covers.
People who can spent time with the children to read and participate in the activities that week may call Head Start at 896-5870 to register.
