Harriet Atwood Patterson, age 88, passed away on November 16, 2012, at Adams Place after a brief illness.

She was born on July 27, 1924, to Harry David and Esther Stamets Atwood in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Lytle (Bill) Patterson (1998) and her sister, Florence Pulford.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law William L. Patterson, III and Marilyn of Murfreesboro, daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Steve Beck of Talbott, Tennessee, and Irene and Dierk Toporzysek of Van Nuys, California and brother Dr. James E. Atwood of Springfield, VA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mason Smith, William Patterson and Meredith T. Baughman of Murfreesboro and Elizabeth B. Wiggs of Raleigh, NC.

Mrs. Patterson was raised in Detroit, Michigan, and was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music. She was a voice instructor in the Music Department of MTSU until her retirement in 1986 and was a noted soloist in many music performances in Murfreesboro from the late 1940’s into the 1980’s. She was a member of the Frances Bohanan Music Club and First Presbyterian Church.

Services for Mrs. Patterson will be 12:00 Noon Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Hinkle and Rev. James E. Atwood officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Benton Hall Academy, 2422 Bethlehem Loop Road, Franklin, Tennessee 37069.
