Superintendent Stuart Johnson announced that Stones River National Battlefield will offer seven presentations of Hallowed Ground: A Lantern Tour of Stones River National Cemetery during 2009.

Each evening, two tours of up to 35 people will tour the cemetery by lantern light and listen to the stories of the soldiers who are buried there and their families.

The first program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Reservations are required and must be made by calling (615) 893-9501 starting on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 9 AM.

Reservations will not be taken in the visitor center or by e-mail. There is a limit of four tickets per caller and reservations are not transferable to another program date. The schedule of remaining programs is below. Reservations for each program must be made by phone starting at 9 AM on the Monday preceding the program date.

Visitors who will require a sign language interpreter will be exempted from the requirement to make reservations starting the Monday prior to each program. We will need at least two weeks to ensure that an interpreter is on hand so people needing this service may make reservations for any program at any time.

My husband and I took the tour on June 20th. Jim Lewis (I think his name was) was our guide. He is fabulous! It was a great tour and so well put together...you really feel like you are there. Really makes you think about the past and those that gave their lives. The Rangers are so full of knowledge and it's obvious they enjoy their jobs and sharing the history of Stone's River. You feel welcome and you leave with so much more than you'd think an hour tour can provide. It's hot out there...bring plenty of water and enjoy!
