Monte Hale Jr.
With more than 25 years of experience in the business, the new managing editor of The Murfreesboro Post will likely be a familiar name to Rutherford County newspaper readers.
Longtime Publisher Ron Fryar announced Friday that Monte Hale Jr. will take the helm of editorial content as editor of The Post, replacing Michelle Willard.
Willard has accepted a position as the Capitol Hill bureau chief for TNReport News Services Inc., a nonprofit organization, in downtown Nashville.
Willard has overseen the editorial desk since the spring of 2010, a few months before Fryar took over The Post as publisher.
Fryar expressed his gratitude for her service to The Post and its readers, noting the Rutherford County native worked her way up from an intern to managing editor in less than five years.
“I want to take the opportunity to wish Michelle (Willard) great success in her career as she moves forward in the business,” Fryar said. “She was a great asset to The Post and will be missed.”
Fryar said he is excited to have Hale on board and noted his extensive experience in Rutherford County’s local news media, especially in the sports journalism industry.
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Monte (Hale) for more than 30 years and enjoyed working with him in the newspaper business in the past,” said Fryar, a former president of the Tennessee Press Association.
“I am very much aware of his talents and abilities, and I know he will bring new ideas and new business to The Post,” he said. “This is the beginning of a very exciting time in our history.”
A Middle Tennessee State University School of Journalism graduate and 50-year resident of Rutherford County, Hale comes to The Post after a long career as a sports writer and sports editor for a combined 25 years at The Daily News Journal.
He has also had his own sports talk radio show on WGNS Radio for the past 10 years, which he will continue to host.
“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to work with Ron Fryar again,” Hale said. “We made a good team in the past, and I am looking forward to joining a great team of staff at The Post.”
Launched in October 2006, The Post is the only locally owned and independently operated newspaper of general circulation in Rutherford County.
The Post, which boasts a staff made up entirely of MTSU graduates, is published twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, and its website, www.murfreesboropost.com, is updated on a daily basis with news and information about the community.
