With ballot boxes closed and the counting, for the most part completed, we have selected new governmental leadership. The selection of leadership is a right guaranteed in our constitution that distinguishes us from other countries. We are people dedicated to democracy and free to choose our own leaders. We do not have international inspectors overseeing our elections. We do not have armed citizens forcing people to the polls telling them how to vote. Our former leaders do not have tanks in the street resisting the choice of the people. Our former leaders are and will be stepping aside in a professional manner to answer the direction of “we the people.” Our democratic system is functioning. The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce congratulates our election winners and looks forward to working with each of them in the future. As the Chamber continues its mission of promoting economic development and assisting to provide a quality of life to benefit all residents of Rutherford County, we will work with our elected officials as partners. To all the candidates, thank you for your participation in the election process. Your participation helped to raise the awareness of various issues and to stimulate discussion. It is through this discourse, answers can be developed. Democracy is about individuals sharing viewpoints, offering solutions, and joining together to move forward. During the election process there was a lot of ‘I’s.’ Now it needs to be a lot of ‘we’s’. We need and will come together as one as we approach the future. We need to continue to demonstrate to the world the importance and viability of democracy. We need to believe in one America, one country and one people. America was founded on the establishment of law and the thoughtful approach of government and change. It is founded on the rights of its citizens and the proper utilization of these rights by the people to select their governing body. The election is historical, not just on who was selected, but it is historical in the demonstration of how democracy should work and how it actually does work. The importance of such an event is evidenced by millions of individuals casting their personal and individual choice, by doing so in an orderly and convincing manner, by valuing the importance of their vote to stand in line to cast it for hours, and by being part of a peaceful transition of power. This is truly historical and significant. The election is over. Our leaders are selected. However, our task is not complete. As community members, we are involved in a journey of an ever-changing landscape. It is necessary of each of us to continue our participation in our government, its issues and its solutions. Our elected leaders continue to need our input and we need to share with them our ideas and observations. We need to continue our participation. Once again, to our selected governmental leaders, congratulations on your success. We look forward to your leadership in meeting the many challenges facing our neighborhoods, our cities, our counties and our state. Michael Malone, CCE President Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce

The 2008 Elections are indeed over.

There were many disappointments but the people have spoken or chosen to remain silent, each according to their rights and the choices available to them.

In 2010, we need a choice in the 6th District and I have stepped up to explore the viability of being that choice: http://tennesseetaylorfor6th.blogspot.com/

Dialogue is a key to Representing Our People.

Our Local Chambers of Commerce are a key part of our future economic success. From them will be fundamental input into our path forward.
