A beautiful day and many generous people turned out in support of Greenhouse Ministries’ food drive on Wednesday.
More than 7,500 lbs of food were collected to be shared among the food pantries at Greenhouse Ministries, Lascassas Food Bank, Feed America First and North Boulevard Church of Christ’s Meals on Wheels.
Donations came in steadily all day as Moody Radio DJ Dawn Rae broadcasted live.
"While many pulled up and had their cars unloaded by volunteers, some donors stopped to chat or to see what Greenhouse Ministries is doing in the community," said Leslie Mertz of Greenhouse Ministries.
Generous supporters gave more than food – they also contributed $1,000 in cash donations
Many volunteers helped make the food drive a success.
Volunteers from Kohls, MTSU, Feed America First, Lascassas Food Bank, and Lancaster Christian Academy students and parents helped throughout the day to unload food donations from cars and sort the donations into food categories. Their help was much appreciated, Mertz said.
Greenhouse Ministries’ food pantry serves more than 1,000 people each month. The food given during the food drive will help support many families during difficult economic times.
"We greatly appreciate the support the Murfreesboro community has shown during this event," she said.
