| Greeneville, Tenn. - GreenBank marked its 120th anniversary Thursday, Sept. 30.
The bank has celebrated its birthday with a focus on the banks employees and the communities those employees live in, work in and support.
GreenBank was first founded under the name Greene County Bank in 1890 and opened for business on February 20, 1891. The bank's first president, W.H. O'Keefe, conceived the idea of establishing a bank with the basic principle of making handling money easier for customers. O'Keefe served as Greene County Bank's president for 15 years, building its first location in Greeneville, Tennessee in 1893.
After several years of change and growth, the main office branch was rebuilt in 1926 on North Main Street in Greeneville where the main office is still located today.
Greene County Bank started expansion in 1962 and has continued that expansion. Today GreenBank has 65 branch locations throughout East and Middle Tennessee, including a branch in Western North Carolina and a branch in Bristol, Va.
GreenBank is one of the largest independent commercial banks in its market. In addition to the branch network, GreenBank also conducts separate business through three wholly owned subsidiaries including Superior Financial Services Inc. operates eight consumer finance company offices and a collection office, GCB Acceptance Corporation operates a sub-prime lending company in Johnson City, Tenn. and Fairway Title Company operates a title company with locations in Knoxville.
In 2007, Greene County Bank™ elected to consolidate its numerous banking brands under the name GreenBank.
