Evidence about an MTSU student making a terrorist threat and setting fires on campus was expected to be considered by the grand jury.

Student Justin Jamal Davis, 19, of Antioch was charged with terrorism by sending threatening emails warning of “large scale destruction” if MTSU classes weren’t canceled in October the week before fall break, said MTSU Police Chief Buddy Peaster. Davis was also accused of setting three fires at Miss Mary Hall residence hall.

MTSU Detective Lt. Matt Foster charged Davis with terrorism and three counts of arson.

Investigators believe Davis, a freshman majoring in the university's pre-professional dental hygiene program, worked alone.

“Davis confessed to setting the fires and sending the emails,” Foster reported.

Assistant District Attorney Tom Jackson and defense attorney Lynda Jones agreed to send the charges to the grand jury instead of having a hearing.

Davis earlier completed a comprehensive mental evaluation.

Grand jurors were expected to hear testimony in February.
