A church volunteer charged with having sexual contact with two boys at the church in December was indicted last week with having contact with two more boys, the indictments stated.
Matthew M. Jernigan, 24, of 136 Trailside Drive off Appomattox Drive in the Walter Hill community, was charged in December with two counts of child rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of aggravated sexual battery by an authority figure, said sheriff’s Detective Jim Tramel.
The boys attended Heartland Baptist Church on East Jefferson Pike where Jernigan served as the volunteer.
After the initial charges, two more boys under age 13 came forward to report similar encounters with Jernigan, Tramel said.
Tramel presented information about all four boys with Jernigan to grand jurors who indicted Jernigan on 15 counts of child rape, six counts of aggravated sexual battery, three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and exploitation of a minor by electronic means.
Jernigan is under house arrest while awaiting disposition of his case in Circuit Court.
