Grand jurors indict three for attempted murder

Grand jurors returned three attempted murder indictments during its March term.

Co-defendants Davie Espensen, 25, of Branford Drive in Smyrna and Dillon Sweeney, 18, of Corner Drive, were charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Smyrna Police Officer Gary Schoon reported they allegedly pointed a pistol at victim Lindsey Shockney’s head and struck victim Christopher Barrow in the back of the head with a pistol, causing injury. They allegedly pointed a pistol at Barrow and pulled the trigger several times but the gun didn’t discharge.

In an unrelated case, victim April Evans accused husband Archie Evans, 29, of Vapor Trail of biting her, throwing her to the ground and shooting at her while her 10-year-old daughter watched, the indictment stated.

A domestic violence case charged Michael Robert Dodson, 25, of Eagle Street with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Murfreesboro Police Officer Cody Thomas accused Dodson of kidnapping a woman from her home, punching her head and trying to stab her Jan. 11. He allegedly threatened to kill her and dump her body.

In another case, defendant Richard M. Keys, 38, of Ragland Court, was charged with two counts of rape. He was charged with forcing sex on a victim against her will Oct. 24.

They were among 176 cases heard by the grand jury during its monthly session. Defendants listed above and below will receive copies of their indictments beginning at 9 a.m. Monday from Circuit Court Judge David Bragg.

Jaquan J. Berry, attempted aggravated kidnapping, attempted robbery.

Juquane J. Berry, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, theft, evading arrest with motor vehicle, theft.

Shawn Denell Berry, domestic assault, resisting arrest.

Barett David Billiot, theft.

Jordan A. Blandford, theft.

Quantravious L. Bonds, felonious possession of cocaine.

Lynette Marie Bowen, theft of identity, forgery (two counts), possession of altered license tag, theft, possession of legend drugs without a prescription.

Chad P. Breece, DUI.

Christopher Brown, aggravated assault while protective order in effect, theft.

Melissa M. Burdette, DUI (third offense).

Gordon S. Buttrey III, consumption of alcohol under age 21.

April M. Collins, domestic assault.

Calvin M. Conley, aggravated burglary, theft.

Thomas C. Driver, aggravated assault while protective order in effect.
