NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Center for Policy Research's government transparency website, OpenTennessee.org, has gone through an upgrade. Now, in addition to searching state employee payroll data, pension information, and every single penny spent by the state of Tennessee, visitors can create their own unique payroll charts.

This new feature makes the state's most user-friendly and informative government transparency website even better. Citizens can simply visit OpenTennessee.org and click on the "Payroll Chart" to check out the highest paid state employees, payroll by agency or position, or even create their own unique chart.

"Not only does OpenTennessee.org allow Tennesseans to track how government spends their money down to the agency, person, and penny, it now allows citizens to utilize all that data in a very unique way," said Clint Brewer, the Center's executive director. "Allowing citizens to see the website's information in a variety of charts and graphics is a great way for them to digest how their tax dollars are spent."

Launched in January, the website unveils how billions of taxpayer dollars are spent each year. The information on the website includes:

* The entire payroll of more than 40,000 executive branch officials
* The payroll of nearly 1,000 legislative branch employees
* The payroll of thousands of judicial branch employees
* The complete listing of more than 98,000 retirees receiving a government pension
* Nearly $50 billion in payments made to individuals and businesses since 2007

Since its launch, thousands of Tennesseans have visited OpenTennessee.org to see how and where government spends their money. Users can also sign up to recieve updates when new information becomes available.
