| The Republican Party of Rutherford County is demanding for the immediate resignation and/or removal of Truman Jones as Rutherford County Sheriff for failing to meet the minimum and legal requirements to both serve.
“What we have here is an assault on the democratic process,” said Felicia Hix, vice chairwoman of the RCGOP. “A sheriff is entrusted to uphold the law. When you have both a sheriff serving illegally, and the government agency entrusted with oversight of the sheriff refusing to enforce the law, you put both our judicial system and our democracy in question.”
Last week, the Rutherford County Election Commission decided Jones’ name will remain on the Aug. 5 County General Election ballot after receiving a County Attorney’s opinion that stated a complaint filed by Republican Sheriff candidate Robert Arnold challenging Jones’ eligibility to run for re-election for the Rutherford County Sheriff came too late after the ballots had been finalized.
Arnold alleged Jones’ 2001 psychological evaluation was signed by a psychologist, Dr. Robert Scollon, whose license had expired in 1989. The same psychologist evaluated Jones in 1976.
By state law all candidates for sheriff must pass a psychological evaluation to run for the office. That evaluation is then certified by the POST Commission and given to the local election commission.
"A number of sheriffs and other law enforcement officials underwent the same process of renewing our psychological certifications in good faith, and as directed by the POST Commission,” Jones said in response to Arnold’s allegation. The POST Commission has cleared jones of any wrongdoing in the matter.
Arnold’s next possible course of action is to contest the election after the final results are in.
Jones issued the following statement Thursday afternoon:
"The POST Commission acted correctly the week before last, the Office of Attorney General's opinion is correct, the Rutherford County Attorney's opinion was correct as was last week’s decision by the county’s Election Commission "A number of sheriffs and other law enforcement officials underwent the same process of renewing our psychological certifications in good faith, and as directed by the POST Commission. “My intent is to keep running a clean campaign. The goal of this campaign is to ensure the continued safety of this county's citizens through proactive law enforcement practices, procedures and programs. “I stand on my experience, integrity and dedication." |

Jones and his good ole boys have been around far too long. It's time for change and I hope we get on.

Arnold's handlers know Arnold can't win the election on his own merit. Their tactics disgust me.

My job took me around the nation and globe, and this is the best law enforcement community I've lived in....I have nothing but upmost respect for Sheriff Jones and his force...some of the best cold case investigators as recognized nationally, and they made history by being first to implement SROs in our schools...thank you Truman.

Anyone who has had children in the Rutherford Co. School System should thank Sheriff Jones for the SRO program.

Like Canalou I have been around a bit. And this county has the most do nothing police force I have ever run across. They do come when you call, but will not do a thing.

Just a friendly reminder "spook"....do you NOT remember that Truman questioned Mr. Arnold's high school education, his diploma to be exact, at the beginning of this race for sheriff?? So your only disgusted by Arnolds tactics...and NOT Jones?? Do you know what a double standard is??

The Sheriff did not question his diploma, it was a close family member did. The question was once that was discovered the Mayor, who was working with the Sheriff himself questioned if Arnold could even work at the work house. So a request was made as was stated in the DNJ. The fact is Arnold made this information known to the press and if you watched WSMV with Nancy Amos she explain what a "special education diploma" was and that is someone was did not receive enough credit hours to get a regular high school diploma with all the credits needed to graduate. So get your facts right. Call the Mayor office and ask, call the Harry Gill and ask him what a "special education diploma" is. You one of those who keep running this neg slime trash. Sheriff Jones is by far the better choice.

Yup, Jones is a real prize. One scandal after another. Let's dump truman Jones, once and for all.

What has he done, what scandal, name it, name one scandal the Sheriff is involved in. Sheriff Jones is a honest man with great experience and will continue to be Sheriff.

It can be argued that Jones' time has come, but Arnold is not the answer.
Arnold has been a sub-standard Deputy and has not even held ANY law enforcement supervisory position.
Lead a multi-million dollar agency? C'mon...

Isn't it odd that several of the local officers must meet certain requirements, like education and experience but the State Legislature doesn't?
Their only requirements are age and living in the district they are going to serve. Whose idea was it that others had to meet certain requirements... ezcept them?

Was the sheriff appointed by the republican party or was he elected by the people?
If they insist he should follow their orders, they should set a prime example and resign themselves.

The GOP nominated an undereducated, inexperienced, immature candidate and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

So your saying that Jones is so bad that an inferior candidate poses real problems for him. Thats chickens coming home to roost.
