The Rutherford County Republican Party will hold its Annual Picnic from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Barfield Crescent Park, 697 Barfield Crescent Rd.

Every year hundreds attend this patriotic event to celebrate our nation’s independence with fellowship, great food, education and inspiration.

Several local legislators and public officials will attend and brief attendees on the recent legislative sessions and local issues.

“Needless to say there’s a huge amount of enthusiasm within the Rutherford County GOP due to our recent sweep of every local office that was up for election in 2010,” GOP Chairman Austin Maxwell said. “This is our way of thanking local citizens that supported our candidates and agenda. Additionally, we want those interested in traditional values and limited government to come out and get to know us.”

Traditional picnic foods, drinks and desserts will be provided as well as games for children and patriotic music.

“This is one of my family’s favorite events of the year. We really enjoy seeing everyone and personally thanking them for all they do for our county,” Murfreesboro City Councilman Toby Gilley added.
