GOP renews call for health care law repeal | Congress, Barack Obama, Bob Corker, Lamar Alexander, Diane Black, Health Care, Obamacare, Tennessee, GOP, Politics, Supreme Court

Members of Tennessee's congressional delegation reacted with renewed determination in repealing President Barack Obama’s signature health care bill Thursday in light of the U.S. Supreme Court finding the law constitutional.

While the Democratic Party celebrated the ruling, several Republican lawmakers who represent Tennessee in Congress described the decision as a monumental mistake.

“Today’s ruling makes it clear that it is up to Congress to replace the president’s health care law with common sense reforms that our nation and its citizens can afford,” U.S. Sen. Bob Corker said.

The court upheld the individual mandate included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that requires all Americans to purchase health insurance, ruling by a 5-4 vote that the provision is constitutional under the Legislative Branch’s power to tax.

“The Supreme Court’s flawed decision is a gross interpretation of Congress’ taxing responsibility under the U.S. Constitution,” U.S. Rep. Diane Black said. “One thing this decision certainly does not change is the need for Obamacare to be repealed – immediately.”

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander also called for Congress to repeal the health care law, saying it will only increase the national debt, as it is currently written.

“The Supreme Court may have failed to declare the entire law unconstitutional, but it is still an historic mistake that expanded a health care system we already knew we could not afford,” he said. “Congress should repeal the law and then proceed step by step to reduce the cost of health care, so more Americans can afford to buy insurance.”

As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Black said she would work to repeal the health care law.

“Obamacare has been a disaster for the U.S. economy,” she said, adding for more than 40 straight months, unemployment has hovered at 8 percent, and it will likely remain that high under regulations and taxes included in the health care bill.

“Every day this law stands is a day more jobs are lost,” Black said, “more money is wasted, and more people are losing their health insurance.”

The British thought that all the had to do to impose an unpopular tax on the American people was to say that they had the authority to do so. The American people voted in Boston and the rest is history.

Diane Black and the rest of our legislators need to be sent packing next election. It is time to move forward.

There are parts of Obamacare that I don't like, but I sure am glad that my 22 year old is now covered under my insurance. Also, I'm happy that we cannot be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions.
