Rutherford County Republican Party Chariman Austin Maxwell has officailly withdrawn from the Murfreesboro City Council election.

Maxwell made the announcement Friday. Here is his statement:

"This decision was not an easy decision.

For a variety of factors that include my family, my employer, my military obligations and duties as Chairman of the Rutherford County Republican Party, I summarily asked to be removed from the ballot.

Several months ago the timing was right to seek office and serve the citizens of our community, but now it is not, due to the aforementioned factors at present and in the future.

Most importantly, I want to say thank you to the many who not only encouraged me to seek office but who also were willing to extend their help to my campaign as well.

As go forward I will continue to do my best for our community, our state and our nation as opportunities arise.

As we move forward let us stay focused on continuing to build our party and electing true Republican candidates in this upcoming election cycle of 2012.”
