From tht Rutherford County Sheriff's office:

A 12-year-old girl escaped from a driver who asked her to “hop in and go for a ride” after she got off the county school bus Friday afternoon in the Walter Hill community, a sheriff’s detective said.

Instead of approaching the driver, the girl ran to her house and the suspect drove away, said lead Detective Randy Groce.

She described the driver as a black man driving a rusty brown minivan.

The girl responded correctly by avoiding the man and running into her home, the detective said.

Children who are approached by drivers they don’t know should stay away from the vehicle.

“If you don’t know them, don’t go near them,” Groce said.

He recommended children go into a house and immediately call the sheriff’s office at 898-7770.

People who see a similar minivan in their neighborhood should call the sheriff’s office immediately at 898-7770.

Citizens who have information about the man driving a rusty brown minivan are asked to call Groce at 904-3049.
