Appliances, decorations and bargains galore will be available at the Community Assistance for International and Refugee Students (CAIRS) yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Blackman Community Club at 4310 Manson Pike in Murfreesboro.
Among the items on sale at recession-beating prices are microwaves, men’s jackets and coats, jewelry, children’s toys and loads and loads of books.
CAIRS is a nonprofit association of concerned individuals whose goal is to help international students who have no family or support network in the United States handle unexpected expenses such as medical bills and car repairs. Many of them are at MTSU on student visas and are not eligible for any federal aid.
To cite one example, CAIRS stepped in to pay some of the bills and follow-up doctor’s visits for an Ethiopian student who was hospitalized with pneumonia and could not afford insurance. CAIRS also helped a student from India whose bicycle, his only means of transportation, was stolen.
