On Saturday, July 25, 11 contestants ranging from ages 7-17 competed in the Generation for Creation’s 7th annual Children’s Talent Show at Middle Tennessee Christian School.
The overall winner was Molly Kenny with score of 96 out of 100 points. Molly, 12, received $500 prize and a trophy.
The Campus School student has been dancing at Dance Works for seven years.
In her third year in the talent show, Kenny took home the top prize by performing other contestants in the modeling category.
She also placed second in the music category for ages 7-12 and second place in the dance category.
June Kenny, Molly’s mom, said Molly does the talent show each year as a platform for experience, so that Molly can perform in front of other people.
Molly’s goal is not so much for the prizes but for the experiences.
She shows great sportsmanship because she encouraged another child backstage the evening of the show, her mother said. During the show, she told a peer that if she continued each year in the Talent Show, she would get better and better.
Molly is inspired by artists and would like to work on Broadway or other performing opportunities and has a wide range of interests, June said.
Molly likes all kinds of artists as long as they are good at it. She like RB, Pop and Country.
Molly showed talent at a young age. She sang, “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry if I Want Too” in a talent show in kindergarten. June said Molly sang in perfect tune at 5 years old and she noticed that Molly had a gift for singing and encourages Molly to sing as much as possible.
Molly enters her local school talent shows every year and Generation for Creation has given her another opportunity to sing each year.
Molly received her prize money and purchased some school supplies but the remainder will go in her college fund.
Molly’s favorite quote is: Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.
Lynnette Cole, Miss USA 2000 served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the talent show.
The judges were: Bobby Daniels, songwriter, musician, former drummer for Kenny Rogers and current SAG actor; Ann Dorman, make up artist, SAG actress, model, drama coach and wife of Randy Dorman (current guitar player for Kenny Rogers); Angie Back, soloist/soprano and opera singer from Murfreesboro; Dawn Entsminger, dance teacher at Thurman Francis Art Academy; and Shona Cowart, owner of La La Dex Press.
