The Gateway Village has partnered with Belgard Environmental and MTSU’s Dr. Heather Brown, Director and Associate Professor of the Concrete Industry Management Program to install and study a state-of-the-art “storm water infiltration” system in their 100,000 sq. ft., parking lot.
The effectiveness of the system will be dramatically demonstrated when a local fire truck empties its water tank to mimic a heavy, quick rainstorm from 11 a.m.. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 15. Joe Swanson Jr., Dr. Brown and Darryl Sapp from Belgard will be in attendance to speak about the environmental, design and cost benefits of the system.
The public and all elected officials are invited to attend.
“The demonstration of thousands of gallons of water being dumped on a parking lot as would happen in a rain storm, may not seem like a big deal, but when you realize the storm water stays on site and is environmentally managed, you will be impressed with this system”, Darryl Sapp, Belgard Environmental
Joe Swanson, Jr., stated, “A permeable paver system costs more than a concrete parking application or a standard asphalt application, but the lifespan of the system more than makes up for the additional costs and it provides a tremendous benefit to our environment by relieving the impact on storm water drainage.”
MTSU’s, Dr. Heather Brown said, “Our students are getting a great lesson in environmental technology by participating in this project. We will track the water quality and quantity data so that we can develop strategies for our Concrete Industry Management Program and the industry at large.”
The storm water infiltration system demonstration will held be at the newly constructed mixed-use lifestyle center, The Gateway Village, located at 804 N. Thompson Lane on Friday, April 15th from 11am to 1pm. Tours will provided for those in attendance.
