Making people aware of gangs and preventing gangs will be discussed during a free seminar at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at First Baptist Church on Castle Street.

Topics include: What is a gang, Identifying gang signs and graffiti, criminal activities associated with gangs and prevention and intervention strategies. The workshop was developed after the city experienced an increase in gang activity and violence last year.

United Way of Rutherford & Cannon Counties is partnering with Murfreesboro Police Department to offer the seminar, said United Way President Rachel Holder.

“The workshop will contain information targeted specifically to Rutherford County’s gang involvement and community violence issues,” Holder said.

Parents, caregivers, educators and community leaders are invited. Lunch will be provided.

For more information, call Holder at 893-7303, extension 112, or e-mail her at rachel.holder@uwrutherford.org.

They should tape this and run it on channel 3 a few times so we can all see it at a convenient time.
