The second annual Fur Ball waltzes back into Stones River Country Club in Murfreesboro 6-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17. The black-tie fundraiser will benefit On The Fifth Day (Animal Sanctuary) that continues on its path to raise $100,000 to purchase sanctuary land, a dog run and administrative building. “Last year, the club’s staff was incredible, the guests had fun, and we aim to make this year another magical night with big surprises,” founder/director Jen Flatt Hilsher said. The itinerary will include a three-course vegetarian dinner, cocktails and dancing, and a silent auction. And making a return appearance with their dynamic and entertaining show is crowd favorite, Radio Daze Big Band. The director and board members continue to train with Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah, and plead with the community to step up for the animals. Hilsher noted, “Financially, we still reach for our first goal of $100,000 to get to the sanctuary which will be located in a rural part of Middle Tennessee. Due to our country’s economic fall-out, the animals have been adversely affected ten-fold and we’re not going to sit on our hands because of monetary limitations. “Daily, we guide and educate people who contact us for help in order to build the foundation that must be laid when we are at the actual sanctuary. We’ll get there. Having said that, we’re facing an epidemic of homeless animals and we encourage those who want to help to give a dollar or two and to give it today.” The 501(c)3, no-kill sanctuary’s mission is to: Protect, nurture, love, spay/neuter, and find homes for abused and/or homeless animals. Tickets are $125 each or $100 with a sanctuary member for $25/year and can be purchased online at www.onthefifthday.org or by sending a check to Post Office Box 10987, Murfreesboro, TN, 37129. If you would like to assist and be a Table Captain, are interested in becoming a sponsor, or to donate silent auction items, please contact Jen Flatt Hilsher by phone at 615-233-5398 or e-mail at jenghilsher@onthefifthday.org.
