Murfreesboro City Council will consider taking out loans to revamp the aging pools at SportsCom at its regular Thursday night meeting.

The city looks to spend up to $3.2 million to refurbish both the indoor and outdoor pools at the recreation facility that was built in 1987.

Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Director Lanny Goodwin estimates the project will cost $2.9 million.

Construction will start in February with the outdoor pool, which will reopen on Memorial Day without any weather delays. The indoor pool will then close to be resurfaced and get a new filtration system.

When finished, the outdoor pool will have a “water-park setting,” complete with a “sprayground,” water slides, an open lap pool and climbing wall, Goodwin said previously.

Spend, Spend, Spend! Its a great time to take out some more loans. Build the biggest water slide in the south!

I was thinking last summer how those pools needed to be revamped. The kiddie pool is so cold in the middle of the summer you feel bad putting your toddler in it. The plans sounds great, yet I have to agree with Macgyver...is this the right time?
