A fund to help the survivors of a man killed in a house fire was established at MidSouth Bank.

Victim Michael Bingham, 49, of Double Springs Road lost his life in the fire about 7:45 a.m. Monday. Murfreesboro Housing Authority employed him since 2005 as a maintenance mechanic.

In a press release, MHA reported a fund was set up for Bingham’s wife, Kimberly, a 14-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son. Their fire destroyed their house. Donations may be made at MidSouth Bank branches. Donations of other items may be brought to the MHA office at 415 N. Maple St.

MHA Executive Director Patsy Noland said, “Michael was respected and loved by all of his friends and fellow employees here at the housing authority and will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to Michael’s family for their tragic loss.”

Sheriff’s Deputy Joey King talked to Kimberly Bingham who reported her husband awoke her.

“Get out of the house,” the husband told his wife. “There is fire.”

She awoke children Brianna, 15, and son Cameron, 7, and ran out the front door. Her husband went to the back door to let smoke out of the house. She heard an explosion near the back of the house.

She, David Johnson and passerby James McClain, who saw the flames, tried to rescue Bingham from the burning house but the flames forced them back.

Detective Randy Groce said cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is a True Hero. Mr. Bingham passed away trying to protect his Family and Everything he had worked for. I ask all members of the community, who can, Please help this family recover from this tragic situation.
