State Sen. Jim Tracy’s campaign announced Thursday former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson will attend a campaign fundraiser from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the home of Shane and Amanda Reeves in Murfreesboro.

“I am honored to have Fred Thompson campaign for me in my race for the State Senate,” Jim Tracy said. “He is an iconic figure in Tennessee politics and is in great demand throughout the country.

“In the U.S. Senate, Fred worked across party lines to produce positive results for the people of Tennessee. I have worked hard at the state level to accomplish the same goal, working across party lines to get positive results for Rutherford, Bedford and Moore counties.”

Thompson is widely known for campaigning in his famous red pickup truck, during his first race to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate.

While in the Senate from 1994-2002, Thompson focused on issues such as reducing taxes and eliminating government waste, fraud and abuse. Thompson has also appeared in 18 motion pictures, including In the Line of Fire, Die Hard II and The Hunt for Red October and played Arthur Branch on the NBC series "Law and Order."

The 16th Senatorial District, held by Tracy, includes all of Bedford and Moore County and most of Rutherford County. Tracy will face Democrat Jean Anne Rogers in the November 4 General Election.
