During the final days of the 2012 BlueCross Spring Fling, four more local state champions were crowned May 25 in two different sports.
Three of those winners were during the Class AAA boys track and field meet at the Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Complex on the Middle Tennessee State University campus.
All throughout the season, La Vergne throwers placed well in all of the important shot put and discus events when it counted the most.
Wolverine athletes Alex Young and Marcus Franklin brought home state titles in the shot put and the discus throw. Young's winning throw in the shot put was 56 feet, 8.25 inches. Franklin's winning mark in the discus was 181 feet, four inches.
Oakland senior Brock Baker came into the state meet as one of the best distance runners in the area this season. Baker proved his point by winning the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races.
Baker finished with a time of 4:15.10 in the 1,600, and a time of 9:18.20 in the 3,200. He won both races by more than two seconds.
On the courts, the Siegel tennis program is not even a decade old, but it has already enjoyed success at the state tournament, and Ashlee Boles added her name on that list by winning the Class AAA girls singles championship at Old Fort Park.
Boles defeated Dobyns-Bennett player Josie Rogers 6-0, 6-2 in the championship match.
