A Murfreesboro firefighter sprays a hot spot inside an Atlas Street home.
Four adult renters escaped without injury from a burning home Thursday morning on Atlas Street off Middle Tennessee Boulevard, the fire department spokesman said.

The renters took refuge in a car while Murfreesboro firefighters extinguished the blaze that gutted the house, said spokesman Assistant Chief Allen Swader.

“They have no shoes, no socks,” said Swader, adding the American Red Cross was called to help the fire victims.

Firefighters arriving within three minutes of the call found heavy smoke and fire coming out of the front door and the windows. Two engines and a rescue truck responded.

Fire marshals were investigating the cause of the blaze.
