Foul play not factor in dumpster death: assistant chief

Foul play was not believed involved in the death of a man whose body was found Wednesday morning in a dumpster at Nottingham Apartments on Greenland Drive, the Murfreesboro Fire Department spokesman said.

An autopsy has been conducted by the medical examiner’s office and at this point, it appears there was no indication of foul play, said Assistant Chief Allen Swader. Murfreesboro firefighters and police were present during the autopsy.

“This is a tragic, tragic thing,” Swader said.

Firefighters believe the man lived in Murfreesboro. They believe they have identified the man but are waiting for a confirmation from family members.

More information is expected Friday.

Was the man on fire when he jumped into the dumpster? Did he climb into the dumpster then set himself on fire? No foul play involved - give me a break!

Smoking in bed?

I'd be very interested inknowing how someone "fell" into a dumpster and set himself ablaze. That would be a neat trick.
If it were a case of "suicide" it's unlikely he would have been alive to burn himself. Accidental fire post mortem is the only other explanation.

makes absolutely no sense.

Just google "Spontaneous human combustion".

This is so sad, but sounds pretty weird. Could be he was a homeless person - maybe drunk - got in the dumpster to sleep - lite a cigarette and after the fire started the carbon monoxide just got to him. God bless his family.

Um, a human body is found at the bottom of a burning dumpster just off a college campus and no foul play is suspected?

I can't wait to hear the hypothesis for this one...

I was at The Boro that night and I never smelled a fire or saw one. Never as much as heard a siren or saw a police car that night. I have although noticed some homeless looking people in this area digging through dumpsters and seen them smoking cigarettes while doing this. Still, this does not add up. You got some idiot putting needles in vending machines across the street at the college trying to be like buzz saw, then this? Something ain't right. Makes me afraid to walk in my neighborhood, and this is all happening right here in my neighborhood! about a year ago the Mapco was robbed and a good friend of mine was fired over being robbed.

Not a homicide? Seriously, would someone explain this so it makes sense?? Is the name going to be released? This dropped off the web yesterday when a name was supposed to be released. I also love how we use the term "isolated incident". DUH!! They all are until it happens again. Some leaders should leave the commenting to the PR folks. These are all terrible stories and terrible goings-on. Too much ugly stuff right now with needles, the dumpster and the Ft. Hood mess.

reply to chellegirl, Assistant Chief Allen Swader is the NEW PR representative for the Murfreesboro Fire Department. Homeless? I think this will be a low priority if he was.

If a million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing -Anatole France-

Fort Hood is tragic, needles at MTSU a concern, the fire is a heart breaking situation for a young mans family. There is no cover up, move on. How about remembering the family in prayers.

He obviously wasn't homeless considering the shirt they found on him was for residents of an apartment complex.

One wonders about the poor MT critics that helplessly grab onto any opportunity to downplay the universities success story. Such as, for example, trying to connect the university with a dumpster death just off of campus. Never mind the death occurred in an area of the "boro" known to be, shall we say, somewhat below the "norm" of human capacity.

The news story needs to be rewritten.

How did he get in the dumpster to get set on fire if there was no foul play?

By: Valerie0903 on 11/6/09
Where does it say he was on fire?

By: canalou on 11/7/09
Let's wait on the full story before jumping...

By: missymomof4 on 11/8/09
Doesn't say he was on fire but it does say he was burnt beyond recognition so I guess that means at some point he was on fire. I just don't understand why no name has been released and people who have called to report a missing family member have not had calls returned.

To: Stargazer, Homeless people wear whatever clothes they are given or find. Just because he had an apts' name on them doesn't mean he lived there.
