Some notable alumni of the Texas Collegiate League who have moved on to the MLB include, but are not limited to Clay Buchholz of the Boston Red Sox and Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants. Cane Cutters head coach Lonny Landry, who played for the Detroit Tigers farm system from 1993-1997, will be leading the Acadiana for the fourth consecutive season.

The PowerAde Player of the Week was awarded to former Riverdale standout Taylor Walker of Jackson State Community College. In game one of the double header against the Texas Marshals, Walker scored the lone run with a solo home run in the first inning and went 2-3 at the plate. In the Cane Cutter’s return to Fabacher Field for Military Night on Saturday, ¬the team got off to an early start when Walker scored Connor Barron from Southern Mississippi from third base on a sacrifice fly in the first inning and again in the third inning when Walker drove in Barron on a ground out to give the team a 2-0 advantage.

Walker then hit a stand-up double to left field in which Justin Holt came in as the pinch runner for Walker and scored on a sacrifice fly hit by James Ziegler. Walker recorded two RBI’s and one hit in the Cane Cutters 3-1 win. Over 14 games, Walker has recorded an astounding 152 putouts (in which he leads the TCL) and four assists for the Cane Cutters on defense.
