Murfreesboro will officially have a new assistant city manager next week, Mayor Tommy Bragg said.

City Manager Rob Lyons has offered the post to Jim Crumley, a veteran in city administration.

“Mr. Crumley's experience in city management, economic development and budget and finance are very impressive,” Lyons said.

Crumley served as Morristown’s assistant city manager for 17 years and city administrator for more than eight years. He retired six months ago.

Prior to that he served as a budget coordinator for Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration and town administrator for Jonesborough, Tenn.

He has a master’s in city management and B.S. in political science from ETSU.

Hamblen County Mayor David Purkey said Crumley is a good city manager.

“I consider him a friend,” Purkey said. “He had a good working relationship with the county.”

Crumley was named City Manager of the Year by the Tennessee Association of City Mangers in 2008.

Bragg said Crumley has only been offered the post and the decision will become official at the beginning of next week.

The job became open when Lyons was promoted to city manager in August after long-time City Manager Roger Haley retired.
