Former ‘Holiday Brite’ house gives back to Angel Tree | Holiday Brites, Christmas

Thanksgiving has come and gone.

While so many are still recovering from overindulging on turkey and dressing, it is already time to prepare for another holiday right, but then, who could forget as Christmas decorations have been on store shelves since Halloween.

Of course there is more to the holiday season than putting off buying gifts until the last possible minute and planning holiday outings.

Some people pull out the decorations and get to work on lighting their house in the holiday spirit.

Sean and Tiffini Florian, former winners of the Murfreesboro Post’s Holiday Brites contest, have been decorating their home for the holidays for about 14 years now.

It started when the couple was living in an apartment complex that offered a rent discount to the best decorated apartment.

The couple won the contest twice, and from there the hobby of decorating for the holiday season snowballed into what it is today.

Their lights cover the yard and rooftop, dancing to holiday music.

Turned on for a short time Tuesday night, Nov. 23, the lights drew observers who slowed to take it all in.

This year, in addition to decorating, the Florian household is embracing another holiday tradition and giving back to those in need.

When you drive by the Florian’s house, in addition to lights, you will notice a collection box by the side of the road.

The Florians have decided to take up toy donations for the Wilson Elementary angel tree – the school where the couple’s daughters attend and Tiffini substitute teaches – and welcomes anyone and everyone who drives by to look at the lights to make a donation.

The idea came from a man in Richmond, Va., without his ever knowing it.

Sean said the family saw a man on television who decorated his house and took up donations from passersby.

The family decided, as long as they’re decorating, this could be a good way to take advantage of an opportunity to help others.

This is the second time the family has taken donations in connection with putting up their Christmas lights. In 2008 the family took donations for Special Kids, Inc. in Murfreesboro.

So when your family is out driving around to look at the lights on different homes in the area, don’t forget to swing by 1134 Mantle Way in Walter Hill and give the Florian’s house a visit.

Take a look at one of the most impressive home displays in the area and make sure to bring a toy.

Sean and Tiffini will be running their lights from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays through the holiday season. However, if the rain or snow has been falling the lights may take a day off. MP
