When two titans of Tennessee high school football clash Friday night as Blackman plays host to Riverdale at The Inferno in a rematch, both teams can look to be on more solid footing than when they played two weeks ago.
Literally.
Blackman’s 14-13 overtime win in the regular-season finale came in a game that started under cloudy skies but soon yielded a monsoon, resulting in a 7-7 tie in regulation time.
Blackman came through with a clutch defensive play in overtime, stopping Riverdale star quarterback Cody West on a run for a potentially winning two-point conversion for the one-point win, the District 7AAA championship and its first win over the Warriors.
The win also gave Blackman the edge in home-field advantage in the playoffs, setting up tonight’s home game.
While the Blaze-Warriors kick off here at 7 p.m. tonight, Oakland, the defending state champion, takes to the road for Cookeville in the second round of the TSSAA playoffs.
In Class A action two areas teams are in competition. Middle Tennessee Christian School, with a bye last week, plays host of Gordonsville while Eagleville travels to South Pittsburgh.
