The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory until 830 a.m. Wednesday for Rutherford and Other Middle Tennessee counties.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or imminent.

This morning NWS radar indicated an area of one-inch rainfall amounts in the advisory area. Rain will continue through today and tonight with additional amounts of 1 to 3 inches possible by Wednesday morning.

With an already saturated ground runoff from this rain will filter into area creeks and streams, collect in poor draining areas and pond on road surfaces.

For today and tomorrow, scattered rain showers today will change over to a wintry mix tonight. Minor accumulation of sleet or snow is possible toward morning especially in the northwest.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice: Turn around. Don’t drown.

The following counties will be affected: Wilson, Humphreys, Benton, Stewart, Sumner, Robertson, Montgomery, Macon, Clay, Pickett, Fentress, Overton, Jackson, Trousdale, Cheatham, Smith, Davidson, Houston, Rutherford, Dickson, Putnam, Williamson, Cumberland, Dekalb, White, Cannon and Hickman counties.
