MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Multiple crews with the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department were called to put out a fire that erupted inside a duplex located at 444 Forrest St. just before 3 p.m. Friday.
"Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy smoke coming from one of the units," said Ashley McDonald, public information officer for the Fire Department. "They were able to locate the fire in the kitchen area of the unit and quickly extinguished the flames."
Crews were able to contain the fire damage to the kitchen area in the one unit, she said.
The kitchen received moderate to severe damage, according to Capt. Jamie Bigelow.
Atmos Energy was called to the scene to shut off the gas, and the American Red Cross was called in to assist two displaced residents.
The unharmed unit was unoccupied, and no one was injured in the incident.
The Fire Marshal’s Office was also called to the scene to collect evidence and launch an investigation into the cause of the fire.
McDonald said more information would be released as it becomes available.
