|The Murfreesboro Fire Fighters Association (Local 3035 of the International Association Of Fire Fighters) will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Friday, Jan. 28.
The Association will hold an anniversary celebration and home coming at The Three Brothers Deli located at 223 W. Main St. in Murfreesboro TN. , from 6 pm to 9 pm.
This business and several others were saved by Murfreesboro Fire Fighters in a dramatic day time fire this past year.
The event will feature video displays of archival photographs and press items from the Associations history. Active and retired members of the Murfreesboro Fire Department are expected to attend. It will be an opportunity for past and present fire fighters to share stories and fellowship and recount their service to the citizens of Murfreesboro. The fire fighter will also present the Three Bros. Deli owners with a photographic display of their building being defended by members of the Association.
The Murfreesboro Fire Fighters Assoc. was founded by 81 charter members, who were forced to receive their charter papers in the parking lot of Mitchell-Nielsen Primary School, after having been locked out of a meeting room in the school. The Association now represents 145 fire fighters in the Murfreesboro Fire Department. This is the vast majority of the city’s fire fighting staff.
The Murfreesboro Fire Fighters Association works on behalf of its’ members on issues of safety, training, compensation. It is active in local and state political races as they pertain to fire service issues. It also maintains a vigorous community relations effort and donates thousands of dollars annually to charitable and youth sports endeavors. It’s annual golf tournament is a Tennessee institution with fire fighters and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Tennessee Fire Fighter Relief Fund.
The Association recently held a training event featuring members of the F.D.N.Y., and is planning similar events for the coming year.
