Two explosions were heard by a neighbor Tuesday before a Lascassas home erupted in flames, a sheriff’s deputy reported.

Owner John Beverly of Dunaway Chapel Road said this was the second time his home was damaged by fire this year, Deputy Will Pinson reported.

The one-story home was valued at $85,000, the deputy reported. A five-piece cherry bedroom suite, other furniture and a LCD television were lost in the fire.

Pinson found the house “almost completely destroyed and still burning” when he arrived.

A neighbor heard one explosion and then a second smaller explosion about 9 a.m., saw the flames and called the sheriff’s office.

Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze. The fire apparently started in the kitchen or living room.

A check of the Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Cooperative power to the house appeared to be tampered with, the deputy reported.

Detectives are investigating.
