Fire destroyed Eagleville Grocery this morning, the town’s only grocery store, the city recorder said.
Eagleville Volunteer Fire Department and four other Rutherford County volunteer departments, several Williamson County volunteer departments and the city of Franklin’s ladder truck responded about 1 a.m. to the Main Street grocery.
City Recorder Colleen Adams said firefighters controlled the fire and kept it from spreading to other businesses but couldn’t save the grocery store.
“It’s really a devastation to the city,” Adams said. “We hate to lose our grocery store.”
Firefighters remained on the scene Tuesday morning. Cause of the fire is under investigation by firefighters and sheriff’s detectives.
Adams said Ryan Perryman and his brother, Brad, purchased the store about a year ago after their father and former owner Al Perryman died.
“They put so much work into it the last year to make it a really nice place,” Adams said of the brothers. “They put their heart and soul into it the past year.
Adams doesn’t know yet if the brothers will rebuild the store.
Adams purchased groceries at the store “almost daily.”
“We just rely on that place,” Adams said, adding, “They are just a part of our community.”
As the Eagleville Football Boosters president, Adams said Eagleville Grocery supported their efforts, Eagleville School and the community.
“It’s just horrible,” Adams said.
