Finances and fun: two words that are not likely to be used together often.

Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency is eager to change this concept for local Rutherford county residents. This Friday, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency will host a “Financial Fun Fest”. The purpose of the ‘Financial Fun Fest’ is to present the usually discouraging and dismal subject of personal finances in a fun, spirited environment leaving clients with a “can do” attitude towards their finances.

The “Financial Fun Fest” will be held this Friday, Jan. 22, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the McFadden Community Center, located at 211 Bridge Avenue, Murfreesboro, TN. For more information on the “Financial Fun Fest, please call 615-742-1113, ext.11 or 25.

“On a day-to-day basis, we see so many clients who are literally one paycheck away from a financial crisis situation. Statistics show that 75% of Americans do not feel confident managing their household finances. It is our responsibility as a Community Action Agency to help our people find ways to manage their money, instead of allowing their money to manage them” says Kreda Yokley, executive director for MCCAA.

MCCAA will present Fest goers with the opportunity to receive free income tax filing services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), with a focus on the Earned Income Tax Credit.

“Often, the tax refunds generated through the EITC is enough to help jump start household financial stability if properly utilized. The “Financial Fun Fest” presents the opportunity to find out how to do just that”, said Yokley.

Joining MCCAA, representatives from several agencies and organizations, including Tennessee Housing Development Authority, Wilson Bank and Trust, Dominion Financial Management, Legal Aid Society of Middle TN, and the City of Murfreesboro will present valuable and practical information on achieving long term financial stability. In addition to the beneficial information being provided, free refreshments and door prizes provide additional incentive for Rutherford Countians to attend!
